Dr. Melissa Gregg Dr. Melissa Gregg, Director of Research for Intel Smart Home, Intel Corp.

Melissa is an international expert in the field of gender studies, cultural studies and affect theory and a commentator on the future of work. She is the author of several books, including Work’s Intimacy (2011), The Affect Theory Reader (2010), and Counterproductive: Time Management after the Organization (coming in 2018).

After a career in academia, Melissa joined Intel in 2013 to co-direct an academic center for social computing. She is currently a Principal Engineer and Research Director in the Intel’s Connected Home and Commercial Client Division. Her research informs investments and user experience requirements across Smart Home and Business Client platforms. She is part of the core team preparing the company for the shift to ambient computing. Her research on coworking in Asia, Europe, the US and Australia has been critical for Intel’s future office vision, making workplace transformation efforts relevant for the growing gig economy.

Miles Kingston Miles Kingston, General Manager, Smart Home Group, Intel Corporation

Miles Kingston is the General Manager of the Smart Home Group at Intel Corporation. He leads the strategy and collaboration of product development for smart home technologies from multiple business units.
Kingston joined Intel in 2000 as a supply chain planner.  Over the next five years, he led various teams before moving into the Desktop Platform Group in 2005 as a product manager.  Kingston managed dozens of central processing unit (CPU) product families and was promoted to lead the product management team in 2010, and became the Director of Strategic Marketing for desktop platforms in 2011.  In 2015, Kingston was promoted to General Manager of the Consumer Desktop PC segment where he began focusing heavily on the smart home market.  In June of 2016, Kingston became exclusively focused on Smart Home and was named the General Manager of the Smart Home Group at Intel.
Kingston holds a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Tufts University, and a master of business administration degree from Portland State University.  Kingston has completed several executive education programs, including the Design Thinking Boot Camp at Stanford University’s D-School.

Yoon Lee Yoon Lee, SVP, Head of Product Innovation Team and Head of Content Services, Samsung

Yoon C. Lee is Senior Vice President and Head of the Product Innovation Team (PIT) and Content & Services team at Samsung Electronics America. He oversees the creation of consumer insight-based concepts for strategic mid-term products across all categories as well as software solutions for devices like VR, the Family Hub refrigerator and other emerging platforms. Yoon has 20+ years of product design & development experience. His industry experience includes automotive, aerospace, consumer electronics, retail, industrial equipment and telecom services. Previously, Yoon was VP of Insight Concept & Portfolio at Samsung Electronics in South Korea, leading Samsung’s home appliance midterm products and portfolio development. Yoon earned his PhD from the University of California at Berkeley.

Patti Loyack Patti Loyack, Voice President, IP Services, Comcast Cable

Patti Loyack Vice President, IP Services, Comcast Cable Patti Loyack is responsible for launching next generation residential service offerings in Comcast's rapidly growing Internet and Communications businesses. She manages all aspects of the product life cycle from business development to launch in addition to analysis and enhancement to ensure growth. She has over 16 years of experience in the cable and telecommunications industry. Previously, Patti served in a variety of leadership positions at Comcast, including Vice President of Communications. She oversaw the growth of Xfinity Communications, including Xfinity Voice, the nation's fourth largest residential phone service provider with more than 11 million customers. Under her leadership, Comcast redefined its voice product into a multimedia communications service. She played an integral role in the launch of the Xfinity Connect mobile app, which provides customers access to Comcast.net email, readable voicemail, and Voice 2go, a suite of mobile features such as the ability to use up to four virtual phone numbers and to make and receive calls and texts for free from a device connected to WiFi. Before joining Comcast in 2001, Patti was a consultant for Cap Gemini Ernst & Young. She focused on strategic planning, supply chain optimization, and business process re-engineering for the Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences practice. In 2014, Patti received the 40 Under 40 award from Multichannel News. In 2015, she graduated from the Cable Executive Management program at Harvard Business School sponsored by the Cable and Telecommunications Association for Marketing (CTAM). Patti also attended the Comcast Women in Leadership program at Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 2012. Additionally, she is a member of Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT). Patti holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Science from Saint Joseph's University. She resides in Center City Philadelphia.

Mark Spates Mark Spates, Product Lead for Smart Home, Google

Mark is the product lead for Smart Home and IoT capabilities across Google Assistant and Google Home. Mark is also the founder iotlist.co, a platform for discovering IoT products. Prior to joining Google, Mark was Head of Connected Home Platform at Logitech.


Eric Adler Eric Adler, CEO, Flume, Inc.

Eric Adler is a first time tech founder, yet a lifetime entrepreneur who is passionate about the intersection of engineering and business. As a mechanical engineering graduate from Cal Poly SLO, Eric pursued the incubation of a senior engineering project focused on providing water usage and conservation data to homeowners into an IoT startup called Flume. Along with his co-founders, Eric has grown the team, raised capital and brought to market a leak detection and water conservation offering that solves a complex problem across multiple industries. Initially pursuing and securing large agreements with multinational insurance providers, Flume is now also pursuing the consumer market. Eric is focused on the continued growth of Flume’s business while pursuing strategic partners, additional investment and market development.

Manar Alazma Manar Alazma, Vice President of Product Management, Communications Service Providers, Nuance Communications

Manar Alazma is a seasoned product management executive and currently serves as Vice President of Product Management in Nuance’s Communications Service Providers business. In this role, he oversees the development of Nuance’s artificial intelligence offerings for TV and Smart Home as well as mobile financial services that deliver a seamless customer experience and drive revenue for telecom service providers across North and South America, the Middle East, Asia and Europe.

Prior to joining Nuance in 2017, Manar served in a variety of executive roles in product management and business development at Huawei, Nortel and Redline Communications.

Manar holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Carleton University, and a Master’s degree in Marketing and Strategy from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.

Jacob Atalla Jacob Atalla, VP, Sustainability Initiatives, KB Homes

Jacob Atalla is Vice President of Sustainability at KB Home, where he leads KB Home’s initiatives to make every home it builds more environmentally friendly.
Educated as an architect, Jacob has over 30 years’ experience with technology and green building. He draws on this deep expertise to create innovative solutions for building energy- and water-efficient homes.
Jacob worked on the 2016 Greenbuild KB Home ProjeKt, a sustainable concept home for today, tomorrow and the future.  
He developed KB Home’s Energy Performance Guide® (EPG®), which for the first time provides homeowners with a HERS Index Score and estimated gas and electricity costs for every KB home.
Recent projects include the expansion of KB Home’s line of net-zero energy homes; building over 115,000 ENERGY STAR certified homes, and 6,000 homes with solar PV; building the most WaterSense® labeled homes in the nation; and building more than 150 LEED Platinum certified homes.
Jacob also prepares the annual sustainability reports released by KB Home, the first national homebuilder to do so.

Terry Bader Terry Bader, Chief Revenue Officer, Guardzilla

Terry Bader has over 20 years of experience as an entrepreneur in the consumer product and medical device industries.  He has over 30 years of broad-based marketing and consulting experience that includes brand management, public relations, product development, advertising, merchandising, consumer promotion, marketing research and sales communication.

Terry was a founding partner of TRG Accessories, a travel gear and accessories company that designed, developed, distributed and marketed products under licensing and OEM relationships in over 40 countries for Swiss Army Brands, Timberland, Callaway Golf, Lands’ End, Target Stores, Wal-Mart, Federated Department Stores, Amazon and many others. TRG was sold to Centric Group in 2005.  Terry also co-founded Verimetrix, an endoscope leak-testing company sold to Cantel Group in 2007.  From 2008 to 2014 he consulted with numerous medical device and consumer product companies. 

In 2014 he became the Chief Revenue Officer of Guardzilla, a leading manufacturer of Wi-Fi home security cameras sold in over 10,000 stores including Walmart, Best Buy, Home Depot, Office Depot, Staples, Lowe’s and more.  

Prior to his entrepreneurial ventures Terry was a regional director at Shandwick International (now WeberShandwick), a leading public relations firm owned by Interpublic Group.  Terry began his career in brand management, first at General Mills in Minneapolis, Minnesota, then at Ralston Purina in St. Louis, Missouri.  Terry has a BBA and MBA in Marketing from the University of Texas in Austin, Texas.

Daniel Behrendt Daniel Behrendt, Director, Honeywell Life Care Solutions

Daniel Behrendt is the Director of Business Development within Honeywell’s Connected Home organization, and since January 2018 has served as the interim-General Manager of Honeywell’s Life Care Solutions business.  In that role, Dan manages the day to day operations of the Life Care Solutions business - providing clinicians with daily visibility and insight into their patients’ health through Honeywell connected devices, data and software solutions so that they may provide virtual care in the home/point of need to improve patient outcomes.  

In his Business Development role, Dan drives and manages relationships across Insurance, Telco and MSO, real estate and other non-traditional channels to generate value for consumers and partners via Honeywell hardware and custom connected solutions in software, platforms and data.  

Prior to Honeywell, Dan held leadership roles in strategy, operations and corporate/business development in both the US and Asia, including Samsung Electronics in Seoul, South Korea and Microsoft in Redmond, Washington.  Dan started his career as an attorney, with a legal practice in Corporate and International transactions.

Dan received his MBA from Insead and earned his B.A. and J.D. degrees from the UC Berkeley and UC Davis, respectively.

Jon Clay Jon Clay, Director, Global Threat Communications, Trend Micro

Jon Clay is a Cyber Security Expert for Trend Micro with 20 years of experience in the security industry and almost 30 years in technology.  He is responsible for managing marketing messages and external publication of all the threat research and intelligence within Trend Micro as well different core technologies. 

As an accomplished public speaker with hundreds of speaking sessions around the globe, Jon focuses on the threat landscape and the use of big data in protecting against today’s sophisticated threats.  Jon has held roles within Trend Micro as a Sales Engineer, Sales Engineering Manager, Training Manager and Product Marketing Manager for SMB prior to taking over as Director of Global Threat Communications.

John was previously Chief Operating Officer and Chief Marketing Officer at PacketVideo. Prior to PacketVideo, he was Co-Founder & CEO of JoynIn, a mobile commerce technology start-up. Tom has a true talent for turning fresh ideas into great products, as proved in his patents and elite acceptance of the 2016 Edison Pioneer Award, an excellence achievement in product innovation, customer service and organizational citizenship, and an award that only 15 people across the 300,000+ GE employee base receive each year. Tom drives strategy, seamless cross-functional communication, and execution as more connected products are being developed, while helping to transform the Consumer Lighting industry.
